Oil Freight Train #photo
This is a picture of a freight train carrying oil or petrol. Each tanker is marked with Esso’s details.
But that’s not why I like this picture. I like it because it was dark, I took it without a flash, set the shutter speed manually and also set the exposure bias myself. The colours have come out, the light’s not too shabby and I don’t think the composition is that bad either. It is difficult to explain but it feels a bit like I took this picture! ![]()

Congratulations; it’s a great feeling when all the technicalities come together and help you get a good shot. And it is a good shot, the lead-ins are really strong and there’s plenty of detail to keep the interest going. For me, I like the contrast between the charcoal grey of the platform and the shades of brown and tan alongside it, plus I’m a sucker for vanishing points.
